Hi there! I am so glad you made it to my blog. I hope you enjoy the many topics I will touch
on during the next few weeks. However,
before telling you what I think about these various topics, it is a good idea
for you to learn about me. Better
understanding my past and my present will help you understand my perspective.
My Motivation:
I am a family oriented
person. My family is the main reason for everything that I do… my biggest
motivation. My husband of 13 years and our three wonderful kids help me stay
connected with myself, grounded, and they offer me a refuge like nothing else.
Professional
Experience:
I have had two big
career changes in my lifetime. While
living in the Dominican Republic, I was 1 year away from getting a Law degree,
as I wanted to become a lawyer.
Then came the
opportunity to move to the United States with my husband and I did a complete
360 and obtained my bachelor’s degree in Human Resources.
Nevertheless, all
throughout this time, my passion for teaching was brewing inside. It began while I was going to school for my
HR degree and I was working as a Spanish teacher for young kids. That passion
led me here: working at District 83 as a Special Ed aide, and months
away from getting my master’s degree in Special Education.

Currently, I am enrolled in a class called Integrating Technology into Programming, Services and Instruction. When I think of this technology class and all other three classes I am taking this semester, the child in me comes to my mind... JUST DO IT!!!

It is no secret that I
love spending time with my beautiful family. Specially traveling to different parts of the world and experiencing
other cultures. We have been to places like France, China, Mexico, Canada and many more. We are also an active
family that workouts together, go on bike rides, love dancing, and playing
sports.
Curious fact:
My husband and three
kids would love to have a dog in the house. I am the only one who is against it
and they have been trying to convince me for the last two years. My only concern is that it would spend too
much time alone in the house and we would need to either bring it with us on
long trips or find a place for it to stay.
Anyways, I secretly want to tell you that they are very close to
convincing me to get a dog… but please do not tell them!

Lucia,
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your post! What a unique experience you had that led you to teaching. I love how the desire was just waiting and growing. Congratulations on being so close to finishing your degree. What respect and appreciation I have for the special education teachers at my school. I learn such great strategies from them.
We have a lot of things in common. I also have three kids. Sometimes it seems like life will never not be chaotic with them! But I do love it. My youngest is still a toddler, so finding one on one time with each of them is something I am trying to figure out. I also love to travel and have been to China as well. It was such a wonderful experience to see differences in culture and such beautiful landscapes.
I can't wait to find out what kind of dog your family convinces you to get!
What a lovely introduction to you, Lucia. I enjoyed reading about the many things that are important to you, and your journey along the way. Looking forward to getting to know you this fall.
ReplyDeleteHi Lucia,
ReplyDeleteWhat interesting experiences you’ve had on your road to teaching. I, too, had a career change, from accounting to teaching! My first experience teaching was actually training my colleagues. Whenever new software was rolling out, I was sent to learn it and then teach my colleagues. I enjoyed training my staff and after a while decided to go back to school for my teaching degree.
I would love a dog, too, but I agree, I would hate to get a dog and not have enough time to spend with it. It’s hard to resist, though, when your kids start showing you all those cute dog pictures!! Good Luck resisting!😊
